How To Disable, Delete, or Reset a Google Group
Disable, Delete, or Reset a Group
The
Advanced information screen allows you to perform three options that
can have significant impact on your Group: Disable group, Delete group,
and Reset group. An explanation of each of these options follows.
Disable a group
Disabling a group causes group activity to be frozen. Once disabled,
all new posts to the group will be rejected. Old messages will be
browseable and searchable online by anyone that has permission to view
the group's content. If this setting is reverted, 'Who can post
messages' will automatically be set to 'Managers only' in the 'Basic
permissions' section. To disable a group:
- From the Topics screen, click on the Manage button. A list of items appears on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on Information. Several items are listed.
- Click on Advanced. The Advanced screen appears.
- Click on the Disable this group button. The Disable group confirmation dialog box appears.
- Click on the Disable group button to disable the group.
Delete a groupDeleting the group permanently removes it. A deleted group can no
longer be found using search or through the groups directory. A deleted
group cannot be restored. To delete a group:
- From the Topics screen, click on the Manage button. A list of items appears on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on Information. Several items are listed.
- Click on Advanced. The Advanced screen appears.
- Click on the Delete this group button. The Delete group confirmation dialog box appears.
- Click on the Delete group button to delete the group.
Reset a groupReset a group allows you to change the group type (and associated settings) for a group. To reset a group:
- From the Topics screen, click on the Manage button. A list of items appears on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on Information. Several items are listed.
- Click on Advanced. The Advanced screen appears.
- Select a group type from the 'Select group type' drop-down list. A
description of the group type is displayed before your selection.
- Click the Reset this group button. The Reset group confirmation dialog box appears.
- Click on the Reset group button to reset the group.
