Turn on Compatibility mode for Internet Explorer

Option 1: Tools menubar

  1. Navigate in Internet Explorer to the site you are trying to access.
    • If the site you need to access is in the mit.edu domain, such as an Atlas application or any other MIT website, you can simply navigate to http://web.mit.edu.
    • If the site is not part of the mit.edu domain, such as successfactors.com or another non-MIT site, navigate to that website.
  2. Press the Alt key to display the menu bar.
    Result: Internet Explorer displays the menu bar: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools...
  3. Click the Tools menu, and then click on Compatibility View to enable it.
    Result: A check is displayed for Compatibility view.

  1. Navigate in Internet Explorer to the site you are trying to access.
    • If the site you need to access is in the mit.edu domain, such as an Atlas application or any other MIT website, you can simply navigate to http://web.mit.edu.
    • If the site is not part of the mit.edu domain, such as successfactors.com or another non-MIT site, navigate to that website.
  2. Press the Alt key to display the menu bar.
  3. Click the Tools menu and choose Compatibility View Settings.
  4. In the field for Add this website, you will see the domain, that is, the last part of the website address, such as mit.edu or successfactors.com
  5. Click Add.
    Result: the domain (mit.edu or other domain) appears in the list of "Websites you've added to Compatibility View".

Option 2: Compatibility View icon

  1. Navigate in Internet Explorer to the site you are trying to access.
    • If the site you need to access is in the mit.edu domain, such as an Atlas application or any other MIT website, you can simply navigate to http://web.mit.edu.
    • For non-MIT websites, such as successfactors.com or another non-MIT site, navigate to that website.
  2. Turn on Compatibility Mode: Next to the address bar, click/tap on the unhighlighted Compatibility View icon. (See screenshot below)
    Result: The webpage will reload with Compatibility View turned on.

Turn off Compatibility Mode for Internet Explorer

  1. Navigate in Internet Explorer to the site for which you wish to turn off Compatibility View.
    • If the site you need to access is in the mit.edu domain, such as an Atlas application or any other MIT website, you can simply navigate to http://web.mit.edu.
    • For non-MIT websites, such as successfactors.com or another non-MIT site, navigate to that website.
  2. Press the Alt key to bring up the top menu.
    Result: Internet Explorer displays the menu bar: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools...
  3. Click the Tools menu, and then click on Compatibility View to remove the check.
    Result: No check is displayed for Compatibility view.

  1. Navigate in Internet Explorer to the site for which you wish to turn off Compatibility View.
    • If the site you need to access is in the mit.edu domain, such as an Atlas application or any other MIT website, you can simply navigate to http://web.mit.edu.
    • If the site is not part of the mit.edu domain, such as successfactors.com or another non-MIT site, navigate to that website.
  2. Press the Alt key to display the menu bar.
  3. Click the Tools menu and choose Compatibility View Settings.
  4. From the list of "Websites you've added to Compatibility View", highlight mit.edu or other website you wish to remove.
  5. Click Remove.

  6. Navigate in Internet Explorer to the site for which you wish to turn off Compatibility View.
    • If the site you need to access is in the mit.edu domain, such as an Atlas application or any other MIT website, you can simply navigate to http://web.mit.edu.
    • For non-MIT websites, such as successfactors.com or another non-MIT site, navigate to that website.
  7. Next to the address bar, click/tap on the highlighted (blue) Compatibility View icon button. (See screenshot below)
    Result: The webpage will reload with Compatibility View turned off.
